College

We started watching Kill Bill last night (supplied by me of course), however I'd already seen it and was getting fairly tired so I went to my room to sleep. Now this is at 11:30...the earliest I've gone to bed here since I've been back (other days it would be at 3 am, 4 am, 6:30 am...even on days before classes). I was proud of myself and wanted to get a good night's rest. However, at 1am...around 5 of my "friends" came by my room and started banging the door, really loud, and this went on for I'm not sure how long, but they didn't stop until I got up and came to the door. Because of this, my day has not really been enjoyable. I've found keeping a normal conversation with anyone has been extremely hard so far today, and I hope that I will feel better later.

p.s. U.S. soldier deaths in Iraq as of Wednesday: 519

Web Design

I am sitting here in my web design class, learning how to make links. ISN'T THAT AMAZING? Sorry, I find this class a waste of time, hopefully we'll actually get into something interesting, not to mention something that I might not know, in a few weeks. Make that months. My professor seems like a cool guy, but I can hear anything he says. He has an Indian accent like Apu from The Simpsons, and talks really really quietly. Next is Western Civilizations with Vincent Patarino, which at the moment is probably one of my most entertaining classes (the other being English History with the same professor, anyone see a pattern?).

I am apparently going to the Linkin Park concert on the second in Colorado Springs. I acquired a free ticket because one of Zack's friends ended up not being able to go...so I wasn't going to pass it up. I'm still deciding if I want to spend $65 and go see George Carlin in Denver on March 6th. It's very tempting, but it's also a big chunk of money...especially after buying my camera. I got to talk to Kassi on the phone last night, and got to learn of all the "little" things that bugged her over the nearly a year we were together. She's probably moving to Orem or St. George, or some place like that next year so we are officially done (after the 3 month period of almost done...but not quite). We are attempting to keep a healthy friendship, and I hope it lasts. I have to say that it's always hard to keep a friendship with someone after that amount of time. I am going to try and start dating again here at the college, however I'm not interested in many girls...and the ones that I AM interested in have no knowledge of me or don't seem to have the same interest in return.

I just got my first assignment for my web design class: put a resume on your web page, and create a list of different flavors of ice cream. It's due next Monday...this is sad.

A Week Well Known

This first week of the semester has been one to remember. Saturday night we attempted an X marathon (an anime series to those who do not know, or even those who didn't wish to know). We got to episode 6 after dreaming up a drinking game for the series, every time the main character's name is mentioned (Kamui) you take a shot...however most of us don't drink that much, so we made a simpler game instead. About half way through episode 6, Kevin (who I now spend most of my time with) showed up. He saw my computer (which we were watching X off of since I brought it down to our TV lounge...We didn't get a new TV the bastards) and basically stood in awe and said "can I touch it." for the rest of the night we sat in the TV lounge watching random things off my computer, talking, laughing, listening to music...it was a great time. We have been staying up till about 3 most nights, which must stop, along with my other friend Zack, and have learned much about each other. Tonight we headed to the mall and watched Big Fish. This movie, despite the pitiful movie theater, was the most amazing experience I've had in a long time. It is definitely Tim Burton's masterpiece and is something to remember. I have never had a movie bring me so close to the characters as this one. We are going to go see it again at 7:15, hopefully with some dates...although it is not a priority.

In other news, today I bought a brand new camcorder. I recently sold my digital camera and now have a Sony MiniDV DCR-TRV38. I am extremely happy with it and it will be well used in the next few weeks. I hope to acquire many more accessories for it for my birthday on February 6th. This camera is probably my last purchase for the next two years. Soon I'm going to be designing some graphics for a new "Bike Blog" that my dad wants to create, and he's going to give me some pointers on "search engine friendly code" for the site.

I have been enjoying my classes, however I have spent too much money on books. My calculus book alone cost $130. My classes are as follows: on MWF I have Calculus, Physics, Web Design, and Western Civ. Sec. 002. On Tuesday I have Calculus and Topics in English History/to 1660. And on Thursday I have Calculus, Physics, English History, and Physics Lab. I hope this post makes you all joyful (Cari!) and I hope to keep in touch with all of you, give me a comment, or an email or whatever. If any of you are going to be in Moab around Feb. 15th let me know because that's when I have my small winter break.

p.s.: yes...I realize that I am speaking of today at 2:42 AM, so please keep in mind I still think of that as yesterday, I mean...today...or, whatever, you get the picture.

Anime
I have decided to make a (hopefully) short list of some of my favorite anime series and movies. I thoroughly suggest all of these for your watching.

Hellsing
(series)
Cowboy Bebop
(series & movie)
Trigun
(series)
Berserk
(series)
Angel Sanctuary
(ova mini-series)
Akira
(movie)
Princess
Mononoke
(movie)
Ah! My Goddess:
The Movie

Hellsing: A strong willed series, Hellsing is action packed to the bone and only gets better with every episode. Hellsing is a favorite among many of my close friends and, of course, myself. The main character, Alucard (Dracula spelled backwards for those of you that didn't notice), is a high level vampire helping a British agency, Hellsing, rid the country of some very interesting pests. At a total of 13 episodes, about a half hour each, this series is a lot easier to swallow than the usual 26 for you people concerned about time.

Cowboy Bebop: One of the best anime series out there and has the most perfect ending I have seen in any anime. All I have to say is watch and enjoy. AND be sure to watch the entire ending credits of the last episode, those of you that don't are idiots.

Trigun: First anime series I completed and happy about it. Both a comedy and drama, Trigun brings the old west to the new frontier. This is for anyone ready for laughing crying and, of course, both.

Berserk: This series probably has one of the best developed story lines that I have encountered. The first episode introduces Gatts, a dark hooded figure with a sword looking about seven feet long. He obviously is scarred by his past (physically and mentally) and is trying to survive. This first episode is a teaser to grab anyone's attention. After the first episode, the timeline moves back to a time when Gatts is a freelance mercinary and moves on to incorporate an unbelievable cast of friends and, of course, enemies. The only reason that this series did not get a five star rating from me is because it totals up at 25 episodes instead of the usual 26 and feels like it's missing that last one.

Angel Sanctuary: In this short three part series, the angel Alexial wages war against God and loses. The fate of all relies on the Setsuna, Alexial reborn in the form of a human boy. This series has some of the most amazing animation I've seen, especially in the rendering of angels. Although it leaves you confused and wanting more, Angel Sanctuary is definately worth your time.

Akira: The first anime that I ever saw, Akira is...interesting, to say the least. Definately not for someone weak of mine or weak of stomach. This one confused many people, my self not included. I do not recommend this unless you are ready for it, don't know what else to say.

Princess Mononoke: A perfect intro to anime for anyone who is unaware of the genre. Beautiful animation and a Hollywood produced english dub with Billy Bob Thorton can cause a sudden urge for obsession.

Ah! My Goddess: The Movie: It may be surprising to some of you that this got the highest rating among the anime movies I chose, however, if you watch this, I promise you will not be dissatisfied. This movie differs greatly from the Ah! My Goddess series and is very enjoyable.

Which character are you from the series? (click on image to take the quiz) These are my results!
Alucard
(Hellsing)
Vincent
(Cowboy Bebop: The Movie)
Gatts
(Berserk)
Setsuna
(Angel Sanctuary)
Ashitaka
(Princess Mononoke)
Belldandy
(Ah! My Goddess)
Wolfwood
(Trigun)
Tetsuo
(Akira)
